What should I pay attention to?

• Make sure you provide all the information the municipality needs. Otherwise, the municipality will not update your address details.
• Are you reporting your change of address more than 5 days after moving? This could have financial consequences. Consider, for example, your rent allowance, student finance, parking permit, municipal taxes, or benefits.

You can notify the municipality of your move in various ways. 

Submit online

Report your move online using DigiD. 

• Don't have a DigiD yet? Request one via DigiD.nl. You will receive your DigiD login code within a few days.

Submit in writing

Notify the municipality of your move using the change of address form. You must include the following items:

• your signature on the form
• copy of your valid ID

Pass on personally

Notify the municipal office of your move. Bring the following documents with you:

• your valid proof of identity

I am going to live with someone or move in with someone

When you move in with someone or start living together, the same rules apply as when you move within or to this municipality. In addition, you must also submit the following documents to the municipality:

• copy of your valid ID
• copy of the main occupant's identity document
• written statement from the primary occupant

I am moving abroad

• Are you moving abroad from this municipality? If so, you must notify the municipality at least 5 days before your departure. You will then need to file an emigration declaration. 
• Different rules apply to emigration than when you move to or within this municipality. The section Moving abroad explains what you need to do.

Who can report the move?

The following persons may report a change of address:

• Everyone aged 16 and older for themselves.
• Spouses and registered partners living together for each other. This is only possible if they move together from one address to another.
• The parent, guardian, or caregiver for minor children.
• Parent(s) for adult children living at home. This is only possible if they move together from one address to another.
• Adult children living with their parent(s). This is only possible if they move together from one address to another.
• The guardian for a person who has been placed under guardianship.
• The head of the institution for persons residing in an institution.
• Someone you have authorized to report the move on your behalf.

Authorize someone

Would you like to authorize someone else to report your move? You can do this by writing a letter of authorization containing the following information:

• your initials, last name, date of birth, place of birth, and address
• the initials, last name, date of birth, place of birth, and address of the authorized representative
• your previous address
• your new address
• your signature
• the signature of the authorized representative

The authorized representative will personally report your move to the municipal office. The authorized representative will bring the following documents with them: 

• valid proof of identity of the authorized representative
• (a copy of) your valid ID
• proof of your new address, for example a purchase or rental contract or permission from the main occupant if you are going to live with someone else
• the signed letter of authorization
