General information about elections

In the Netherlands, there are elections for municipal councils, provincial councils, the Senate and House of Representatives, the European Parliament, and the water boards.

Every resident who is 18 years of age or older on the day of the vote is eligible to vote. The condition is that the voter must have Dutch nationality and not be excluded from voting. This does not apply to those eligible to vote in municipal council and water board elections. If they meet the requirements, non-Dutch citizens may also cast their vote.

Voting from abroad

Do you live outside the Netherlands and want to vote from abroad? Then register once as a voter outside the Netherlands. With this permanent registration, you can vote in elections for the House of Representatives and the European Parliament.

The documents required to vote will then be sent automatically to your residential or mailing address abroad for each election.

The municipality of The Hague is responsible for registering Dutch voters abroad. For more information or to register immediately, visit:www.stemmenvanuithetbuitenland.nl

Your vote counts!

Your right to vote is a valuable democratic right. During an election, your vote helps determine who will represent the residents of Beverwijk and Wijk aan Zee, North Holland, the Netherlands, or Europe in the coming period.

The representatives of the various administrative bodies make many decisions that affect you. These include street safety, healthcare, traffic, education, the economy, and the environment. These decisions can have a direct impact on your living environment, your neighborhood, or your tax contributions.
