About ReadSpeaker webReader

ReadSpeaker webReader can read a website's content aloud. On any online device, wherever you are, one click and the page is read aloud while the text is highlighted to make it easier to read along. This makes the website accessible to a wider audience of Internet users, including those with learning disabilities or visual impairments, the low-literate, those learning a new language, the ever-growing elderly, and anyone who prefers to listen rather than read or access websites on the go. webReader is cloud-based (SaaS). To use it, you don't have to download anything.

How does it work?

Activate webReader by clicking the read aloud button.

With webReader you can:

  • Listen to selected text: select and click the read aloud button,
  • Hold the mouse over a paragraph to have it read aloud,
  • in text version view the content without complex formatting, with font, font size and colors according to your personal preference. Reading aloud and highlighting simultaneously can also be done in text version,
  • download an audio file with the content from the web page so you can listen offline as well,
  • Translate selected text into one of the languages offered and have it read aloud in that language,
  • set the reading speed, colors for highlighting and more,
  • Look up the meaning of a selected word,
  • Set the reading language.

Keyboard navigation

webReader can be activated, that is, focus can be put on the read aloud button, with the access key "K". The access key "L" puts focus on the player and starts reading aloud. Many of the WebReader features have their own access keys. Access keys are activated with modification keys, depending on your browser and operating system. (For further info on modification keys see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_key).

When the focus is on the player, you can use tab/shift+tab to navigate the player and taskbar and press enter to activate a button or choice.

When the focus is set on the drag bar it shows orange and you can move the preview button, player and taskbar with the arrow keys or (faster) with Shift + arrow keys.
