Apply for benefits from the age of 27

Do you have insufficient income to make ends meet? Then look for paid work immediately. If you are unable to do so, you may be entitled to temporary social assistance benefits. 

You can check whether you meet the conditions on the government website. If you do and you live in Houten, IJsselstein, Lopik, or Nieuwegein, you can apply for social assistance benefits at WIL.

Step by step: applying for benefits

On this page, we explain step by step how to apply for benefits. Applying for benefits generally takes eight weeks. There are a maximum of eight steps to complete.

  1. Currently working on: Step 1: Make an appointment

    Call our customer service department to make an appointment for an initial consultation. See Contact.
    Would you like to bring someone with you to the consultation? Feel free to do so! After all, two people hear more than one.
    Are you unable to call? Then visit us on the first floor of the City Hall in Nieuwegein and report to the reception desk.

  2. Still to do: Step 2: First interview

    up to 5 business days

    In this conversation:
    - you explain why you are applying and what your situation is
    - it is determined whether you may be entitled to benefits and whether it makes sense to submit an application
    - you discuss your options on the labor market and how you can improve your position
    - we draw up a work plan with you
    - we invite you to an information session, workshops, and a follow-up interview

  3. Still to do: Step 3: Fill in digital resume

    up to 3 business days

    We will send you a link that you can use to enter your digital resume at home.

  4. Still to do: Step 4: information session on 'Rules for receiving benefits'

    You are going to the information session 'Rules for receiving benefits'.

    You will receive an explanation of the rules that apply to social assistance.

  5. Still to do: Step 5: Attend workshop(s)

    up to 2 weeks

    You usually attend one or more workshops.


    Our workshops are:

    - CV and cover letter
    - Jobcenter
    - Samen naar werk

  6. Still to do: Step 6: Go to a follow-up meeting

    During the follow-up interview:

    - we will go through the agreements in your work plan
    - you will provide additional information
    - you will receive an application form
    - you will receive an overview of the supporting documents required for your application

  7. Still to do: Step 7: Benefit intake

    up to 7 business days

    During this conversation:
    - we will check whether all supporting documents are complete
    - you will explain the documents

  8. Completed: Step 8: Decision: payment or no payment

    up to 8 weeks

    You will receive the decision on your application by mail.


    Benefit

    If you are awarded benefits, then:
    - you will receive a letter from us with an explanation
    - you will be assigned a job coach who will help you take targeted steps forward

    No benefits

    - Your application has been rejected

    - You can then submit an objection within six weeks of the decision. See Submitting an objection.
