Applying for benefits from age 27

Do you have no or insufficient income to make ends meet? Then look for paid work right away. Is this not possible? You may be entitled to temporary assistance. 

On the website of the central government you can see whether you meet the conditions. If this is the case and you are from Houten, IJsselstein, Lopik or Nieuwegein, you can apply to WIL for an assistance benefit.

Below are the steps you take to do this.

Step by step: applying for benefits

On this page we explain step by step how to apply for benefits. In principle, it takes 8 weeks to apply for benefits. You will go through a maximum of 8 steps for this.

  1. Currently in progress: Step 1: Making an appointment

    Call our customer service department to make an appointment for a 1st interview. See Contact.
    Do you feel comfortable bringing someone with you to an interview? Feel free to do so! After all, two people hear more than one.
    Is it not possible for you to call? Then come to the 1st floor of the City Hall in Nieuwegein and report to the reception desk.

  2. Still to do: Step 2: 1st interview

    up to 5 working days

    In this conversation:
    - tell you why you are applying and what your situation is
    - determine whether you may be entitled to benefits and whether it makes sense to apply for them
    - discuss your opportunities on the job market and how you can improve your position
    - draw up a work plan with you
    - We invite you for information, workshops and a follow-up interview.

  3. Still to do: Step 3: Complete digital resume

    up to 3 working days

    You will receive a link from us that will allow you to enter your digital resume at home.

  4. Still to do: Step 4: education 'Rules of the game when you receive benefits'

    You go to the information "Rules of the Game when you receive benefits.

    You will get an explanation of the rules that apply in welfare

  5. Still to do: Step 5: Attend workshop(s)

    up to 2 weeks

    You usually attend one or more workshops.

    Our workshops are:

    - CV and cover letter
    - Jobcenter
    - Together to work

  6. Still to do: Step 6: To a follow-up interview

    During the follow-up interview:

    - we go over the agreements in your work plan
    - give you additional information
    - you will receive an application form
    - you will be given an overview of the supporting documents required for your application

  7. Still to do: Step 7: Benefit intake

    up to 7 working days

    During this interview:
    - we review whether all supporting documents are complete
    - you explain the documents

  8. Completed: Step 8: Decision: benefit or no benefit

    maximum 8 weeks

    You will receive the decision on your application by mail.

    Well benefit

    If you are awarded benefits, then:
    - you will receive a letter from us with an explanation
    - you will receive a work coach who will help you take specific steps forward

    No benefit

    - your application has been rejected
