Erwtensoep, also known as snert, is a hearty soup traditionally eaten in the Netherlands during the winter months. It is made from dried peas, vegetables, meat and spices and is a filling and warming meal.

Making pea soup is relatively easy, but it does take some time. Dried peas are usually soaked first and then cooked with vegetables such as leeks, carrots, onions and celery, and often potatoes. Meat may also be added to the soup, such as smoked sausage, bacon or ham. The soup is seasoned with herbs such as bay leaf, thyme and pepper.

Pea soup is often served with rye bread and bacon. The rye bread is spread with butter and the bacon is fried crispy and cut into small pieces. Pea soup is usually served hot and can be an excellent way to warm up on a cold winter day.

Pea soup is not only a delicious and filling meal, but it is also nutritious. Peas are rich in fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals, while the vegetables and herbs in the soup are also high in nutrients. Adding meat to the soup can also add to the protein content of the meal.

All in all, pea soup is a delicious, traditional meal perfect for the winter months. It is not only delicious, but also nutritious and offers a great way to warm up on cold days.
