Requesting personal data

What is it?

The municipality keeps personal data on all residents in the Basic Registration of Persons(BRP). The municipality needs this data when you get married, for example, or when your passport expires. If necessary, the municipality may also share your data with other government agencies, such as the tax authorities, the judiciary or the police. Or with organizations such as pension funds and housing corporations.

You can find what information about you and your minor children is in the BRP by logging on to MijnOverheid.

What to do.

  • Via My Government you can view your own data or that of your minor children:
    • Log in with your DigiD.
    • Then click on "Personal Information" at the top of the page. Under the BRP heading, you can view your information.

Additional information

  • If you are looking for someone else's BRP personal data, tell the municipality what you need the data for.
  • The person you are seeking must give permission to do so.
  • The municipality will determine whether you receive the requested information:
    • You will receive information only if you have a personal, non-commercial reason.
    • You can only get standard information, such as name, date of birth, address, place of residence or date of death.
    • You will not receive information if the person has requested confidentiality of his or her personal information.
  • If the municipality denies your request for information, you can object within 6 weeks.
