Designate monument
What is it?
A municipal monument is usually a special building, but it can also be a special bridge or park. A house or building can also become a monument. You can ask the municipality to designate your building as a municipal monument.
How does it work?
- Whether your property can become a municipal monument depends on factors such as its architectural style and whether any notable people have lived there.
- A municipal monument is different from a national monument. National monuments are designated by the national government.
What should I do?
You are requesting the municipality to designate your property as a monument. Please provide the following information:
- the architect
- the architectural style
- the year of construction
- important previous residents
- archaeological finds made in or around your property
- important historical events that took place in or around your property
Additional information
If you do not want your home to be designated as a municipal monument, you must submit an objection to the municipality. For example, if you live in the same building as the person who submitted the application to the municipality. Submit your objection within six weeks of the designation being announced.
