What is a reporting code?

A reporting code describes in five steps what you should do if you suspect domestic violence or child abuse. Each organization develops its own reporting code. A reporting code must include the following steps:

  1. Map out the signals.
  2. Consult with colleagues and, if necessary, with the domestic violence and child abuse advice and reporting center Veilig Thuis(Safe Home) .
  3. Talk to the parent.
  4. Weigh domestic violence/child abuse using the assessment framework.
  5. Make two decisions: (1) Is it necessary to report to Veilig Thuis? (2) Is it also possible to provide or organize help?

Since 2019, the reporting code has had a mandatory assessment framework.
