Additional information

As a professional, do you work with families, children or adults and suspect child abuse or domestic violence? If so, you must use a reporting code. The reporting code is mandatory for the sectors:

You must adopt, use and publicize the reporting code to employees.

What is a reporting code?

A reporting code describes in 5 steps what you should do if you suspect domestic violence or child abuse. Each organization develops its own reporting code. A reporting code must have at least these steps:

  1. Map the signals.
  2. Consult with colleague and possibly with the domestic violence and child abuse hotline Safe Home.
  3. Engage in conversation with the parent.
  4. Weigh the domestic violence/child abuse with the weighing framework.
  5. Make two decisions: (1) Is reporting to Safe House necessary? (2) Is giving or organizing help also possible?

Since 2019, the reporting code has a mandatory consideration framework.
