Royal awards for two special Blaricummers

This year 2 residents of the municipality of Blaricum were decorated at the annual ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor Barbara de Reijke presented the royal decorations to Mrs. Staal-Sas and Mr. Oort on Friday, April 25.
Mrs. Staal-Stas
Ms. Staal-Sas was appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau, in particular for her commitment to helping people with cancer and their loved ones who get stuck due to psychological symptoms caused by this illness.
She has been committed to various agencies and organizations in the Netherlands for 24 years.
- She co-founded the Hospice in Houten.
- Her fundraising efforts for Wilhelmina Children'sHospital, among other things, made the expansion of the intensive care unit possible.
- And as a board member of the Friends of Abrona Foundation, Ms. played a key role in improving the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities.
- For soccer club FC Utrecht she organized fundraising activities that included raising money to allow underprivileged children to play sports.
Mrs. Staal-Sas has been committed for 18 years to the Helen Dowling Institute, a national healthcare facility that provides psychological care to people affected by cancer. She dedicates herself as a fundraiser and ambassador. Thanks in part to her dedication, the institute has been able to develop into a leading healthcare institution. Her work has led to, among other things, the institute's new building and its annual benefit gala.
Mr. Oort
Mr. Oort has been appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He has worked for 50 years as a volunteer for various Blaricum associations and organizations. He brought energy, enthusiasm and a connecting force that made the organizations stronger and inspired others.
Since 1975 he has been active for the Reformed Village Church and later the Protestant Congregation of Blaricum.
- He spearheaded the building and functioning of the congregation in positions as church guardian and scribe.
- He has also been active for the Sports and Gymnastics Association Swiftness and Strength (SGV) for many years.
- During his presidency of the motorcycle club Intruder Owners Club Holland, it grew into an active and lively motorcycle club, known for its well-organized events.
- Mr. Oort has also made a special contribution in his professional life. From his positions for Phillips and Samsung, he contributed to the advancement of mobile telephony. For this, he received the Appointment to DM+S Global 5ESS ® 2000, a prestigious international award in his field.
