Requesting information (Wob request)

What is it?

Government information must be as public as possible. This is stipulated in the Government Information (Public Access) Act (Wob). For example, you have the right to information about municipal policy and decisions. The municipality informs its residents about this via press releases, local newspapers, or its website.

If you wish to request information that the municipality has not (yet) made public, you can submit a Wob request to the municipality.

Please note! If you also wish to reuse this information, you must submit a WHO request rather than a WOB request.

How does it work?

You can submit a Wob request if:

  • clearly indicate what information you would like to receive
  • the municipality actually has the information
  • the information concerns the municipality's policy
  • the information is recorded, for example on paper, film, photo, tape, or a digital file

The municipality can provide you with the information in various ways. For example, it can provide you with a copy of a document or a summary thereof. The municipality may also invite you to come and view the documents.

What should I do?

You submit the Wob request to the municipality. Clearly indicate what information you want.

How long will it take?

You will receive a response to your request within four weeks. The municipality may extend this period by four weeks.

Lodge an objection

  • If the municipality does not make a decision on time, you can lodge an objection.
  • If the municipality rejects your request and you disagree with this decision, you can lodge an objection within six weeks.
