Requesting information (Wob request)

What is it?

Government information should be public as much as possible. This is stated in the Public Access Act (Wob). For example, you are entitled to information about the municipality's policies and decisions. The municipality informs its residents about this through press releases, door-to-door newspapers or the website.

If you want to request information that the municipality has not (yet) made public, you can submit a Wob request to the municipality.

Note! If you also want to reuse this information, do not submit a Wob request but a Who request.

How does it work?

You can submit a Wob request if:

  • you clearly state what you want to receive information about
  • the municipality actually has the information
  • the information is about the policy of the municipality
  • the information is recorded, such as on paper, film, photograph, tape or a digital file

The municipality can give you the information in different ways. For example, a copy of a document or a summary of it. The municipality may also invite you to come see the documents.

What to do.

You submit the Wob request to the municipality. Clearly state what information you want.

How long does it take?

You will be notified of your request within 4 weeks. The municipality may extend this period by 4 weeks.

Objecting

  • If the municipality does not decide on time, you can object
  • Does the municipality reject your request and do you disagree? Then you can object within 6 weeks.
