IJsselstein introduces the "Green Route" for a sustainable future

IJsselstein is taking a big step toward sustainability and livability with the launch of the new "Green Route." The initiative, which was festively opened this week, invites residents and visitors to discover the city in an environmentally friendly way.
Councilman de Vries

, responsible for sustainability, spoke enthusiastically during the opening, "With the Green Route we show that a sustainable future is not only necessary, but can also be incredibly fun. It is a route full of surprises and inspiration."
What is the Green Route?
The Green Route is a network of hiking and biking trails that connects several green hotspots in and around IJsselstein. The route offers:
- Sightseeing: Explore parks, natural playgrounds and historic gardens.
- Local Delights: Cycle past sustainable farms and sample local produce.
- Educational stops: Learn about biodiversity and climate adaptation through interactive panels.
This route uses existing trails, supplemented by new initiatives, such as picnic spots and information boards on local flora and fauna.
"Sustainability starts with all of us."
During the launch, visitors were invited to participate in workshops on greening and recycling. A sustainable market was also organized, where local entrepreneurs showcased their products.
Peter Jansen, an enthusiastic resident, said, "I think it's great that the municipality organizes such initiatives. It brings people together and shows how together we can contribute to a greener future."
