IJsselstein introduces the "Green Route" for a sustainable future

IJsselstein is taking a major step toward sustainability and livability with the launch of the new "Green Route." The initiative, which was officially launched this week, invites residents and visitors to discover the city in an environmentally friendly way.
Councilor de Vries

, responsible for sustainability, spoke enthusiastically during the opening: "With the Green Route, we are showing that a sustainable future is not only necessary, but can also be a lot of fun. It is a route full of surprises and inspiration."
What is the Green Route?
The Green Route is a network of walking and cycling paths that connects various green hotspots in and around IJsselstein. The route offers:
- Places of interest: Discover parks, nature playgrounds, and historic gardens.
- Local delicacies: Cycle past sustainable farms and sample regional products.
- Educational stops: Learn more about biodiversity and climate adaptation through interactive panels.
This route makes use of existing paths, supplemented with new initiatives such as picnic areas and information boards about local flora and fauna.
Sustainability starts with all of us.
During the launch, visitors were invited to participate in workshops on greening and reuse. A sustainable market was also organized, where local entrepreneurs presented their products.
Peter Jansen, an enthusiastic resident, said: "I think it's fantastic that the municipality organizes such initiatives. It brings people together and shows how we can contribute to a greener future."
