Municipalities in the Sloter region and police join forces to combat car break-ins.

On Tuesday, July 17, Mayor Jan Slotetijn presented the first car kit containing chemical DNA to Mr. Jaap de Beer Pegels from the municipality of Slootstrijen, who was the victim of a car break-in in 2017.
"We cannot completely eliminate car break-ins. What we can do is prepare ourselves as much as possible as car owners or users. Locking your car properly is very important, but not leaving luxury items in the car and installing alarm equipment also help. The DNA kits we are now going to use are an excellent addition to our prevention measures. As mayors, we encourage their use!" According to Mayor Slooteijn.
What is chemical DNA?
Chemical DNA is a liquid that is applied to valuable items to protect them against theft. The liquid glows under ultraviolet light and has a unique composition that acts as a kind of code. Once this code has been registered by the owner, cars and car parts that have been treated with chemical DNA can be directly linked to their rightful owner, making them unattractive to steal and resell.
Objective
In the north, the use of chemical DNA has already led to an 80% decrease in the number of car break-ins. By using chemical DNA, the municipalities within the Hoeksche Waard and the police hope to reduce the number of car break-ins in the Hoeksche Waard by 50%.
