IOAW stands for the Income Support Act for older and partially disabled unemployed workers. You can apply for this benefit at WIL.

Terms

You can get IOAW benefits if you meet all these conditions:

  • You were born before January 1, 1965
  • You became unemployed on or after age 50, but have not yet reached the state pension age
  • You received unemployment benefits for more than 3 months
  • You can no longer receive unemployment benefits
  • You have insufficient income to live on

IOAW benefits are also available if you meet the following conditions:

  • You were born before January 1, 1965
  • On or after age 50 you received WGA benefits (work resumption partially disabled)
  • Your WGA benefits stopped because your re-inspection showed that you are less than 35% incapacitated for work
  • You have insufficient income to live on

Request

The application process is similar to that of applying for welfare benefits. This means that you must:

  • make an appointment through our customer service department*
  • the date you contact us to make an appointment is the so-called notification date
  • within 8 weeks you will be notified whether you will receive the benefit
  • If it is determined that you are entitled to benefits, this is the date your benefits begin
